October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Month, a critical time to highlight the importance of CPR and AED training. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is one of the leading causes of death, claiming more than 350,000 lives in the U.S. each year. The scariest part? Most of these events happen outside of hospitals\u2014at home, work, or public places, where immediate help could make all the difference.<\/p>\n

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?<\/h3>\n

SCA<\/a> occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating due to a malfunction in the heart\u2019s electrical system. This differs from a heart attack, caused by a blockage in the blood flow to the heart. During SCA, the heart stops pumping blood to vital organs, including the brain and lungs, and if not treated immediately, the person can die within minutes.<\/p>\n

Why CPR is Critical<\/h3>\n

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is a lifesaving technique that helps maintain blood flow to the brain and heart during a cardiac emergency until professional help arrives. Studies show that if CPR is performed immediately, it can double or even triple a victim\u2019s chance of survival. The key is acting fast\u2014every second counts.<\/p>\n
